Is modesty old-fashioned?

Is modesty old-fashioned

A few years ago I made an attempt to retire.  Since we lived across the street from a high school I thought that it would be fun to do a little substitute teaching.  I remember telling this to a customer of mine who was a retired teacher.  Her response was, “Why would you want to do that?” Well, sometimes you have to put you hand on the hot stove to find out that mother was right when she told me to not touch it.
After trying it for a few weeks I came to realize that my customer was right.  I came home from school one day and said, “Honey, we don’t need the money that bad, I am not going back.”  “Why, she asked?”
My answer was, “I don’t think that the tops that most of the girls wear have more than 15 cents worth of material in them and their dresses can’t be more than 6 inches below their crotch.
It is one thing for the world to dress like the sinners they are, but when church people copy the world it is beyond sad, it is immoral.
Several weeks ago I was talking to my daughter-in-law about this subject and I asked her a question.  “Why do girls and women as well wear skin tight jeans with sequins on the rear pockets?”  Her answer was, “They are cute.”  My response was, “From a male perspective, they are worn to draw attention, and draw attention to what? Their butt.” I think that she was a little shocked, but she had to agree with me.
I like what Dr. Kent Hovind once said in regards to this subject. “If you aren’t selling, why are you advertising?”
When I see junior high girls dress for school in tight jeans, walking in high heeled boots, wearing a thin see-through top and a black bra, and enough make-up to paint a small house, my heart breaks. I am thinking that the world has robbed her of her innocence by dressing like a whore.
Can the world tell the difference between a Christian girl and a girl of the world? For that matter can the world tell the difference between a Christian woman and a woman of the world?
Real beauty is not found in a woman’s dress as is one’s character.  A beautiful woman according to the Bible dresses with modesty, with decency, and with propriety. ICor. 2:9.
We are told that close to 500 churches close their doors every month in this country and the people are asking why is this happening.
If one were to walk into an average church on Sunday morning what would they find different about it? It is no different than any club that one joins, the people act no different, dress no differently, plus you get to sleep in on Sunday morning to participate in any other club.
I think that it comes down to one question, “Who is first, who is number one?”  The world says that, “Since you only get one shot at life, get all that you can get and that means attention and recognition.” The world teaches us that “We are something, look at me.”
The Christian on the other hand must believe that “I am second, and He (Jesus) is number one.” We were bought with a price and that price is a high one.  God lowered himself to take on the flesh of a man and then died so we could be redeemed from the future that we deserve, that is spending an eternity in Hell. This concept is called GRACE and most Christians cheapen it by thinking that they can act any way that feels good and is acceptable to the world and still find favor in God’s eyes.
Here is a question.  Have you ever gone to a funeral where someone who has led a self-centered life by living for themselves is eulogized by the preacher who tells his hearers that this person is now enjoying his reward in Heaven.? The sad thing is that this person indeed is experiencing his reward but it is probably not in Heaven.
Parents, the responsibility ultimately rests on you, are you allowing or encouraging your girls to dress like the world?
“If you are not selling, why are you advertising?”

Hi. I am a non-Christian and I ended up o this page because I was concerned that modesty had gone the way of common courtesy; that it was somehow uncool or something these days, to be either modest or couteous.
Now I am also concerned that people like YOU seem to think that Christians are the only people concerned with modesty!! I will have you know that my daughter doesn't even like to wear low cut tee shirts! Lots of "Christian" girls dress inappropriately at her school and your opinion shows a degree of ignorance that borders on meanness.
