The church should be the church
Sometimes I hear things that I wished I hadn't heard and I see things I wished I hadn't see. I am having some of those same things happening to me here in Louisiana this winter.
You really can't know for sure what color the toothpaste is until you squeeze the tube. The same thing can be said about people. When things are going well they can put on a pretty good act, but when circumstances get a little dicey, the color of the toothpaste is evident. There is so much work to be had down here that roofers are charging $150.00 per hour and getting it. Other tradesmen are taking advantage of the environment as well. I hate to have to say this but Christians are seeing opportunities to take advantage of in this environment as well. Those are the things that I wished I hadn't seen or heard. Enough said on that topic.
We have seen the worst of the destruction by now. I was talking to a Salvation Army volunteer this week who told me that he has seen all of the world's disasters over the past 12 years and he has NOT seen anything that compares to the devastation here on the Gulf Coast. I am posting a couple of photos that only show a little of what I am talking about.
The house in the middle of the street is interesting in that it is two blocks from its home lot but the interesting thing is that if you look closely you will see that it still is sitting on the concrete slab. Now houses don't float very well sitting on several tons of concrete and you wonder at the kinds of forces that it takes to float something like that two blocks.
I have lots of photos to share as the weeks go by and I haven't even mentioned the Gulf coast of Mississippi yet.
